English
News (2008.8.4)
Have you ever read news articles in English? If not, I recommend you to
do it, just for a switch.
When I was a child, news articles were none of my business. I didn’t have
the custom to read newspapers. I couldn't see the connection between the
news and me at all. To begin with, they were too difficult for me. I seldom
watch TV news, either, so even when I became a university student, I didn't
have much knowledge about politics, economics, business and current topics.
I HATED to talk about news with my friends because I didn’t understand
almost all of them and felt embarrassed.
But a few years later, I discovered. ENGLISH NEWS was something different !
When I was 24, I bought my first note-book computer and started exploring
the web. When I read English news on the web, it stimulated my curiosity.
Japanese news articles were still boring, but somehow or other, English
ones were INTRIGUING! It was like a MAGIC. Probably, it was due to the
POWER of the English language. English has the POWER to tell us its contents
DIRECTLY, and WITH STRONG IMPACT compared to Japanese.
Since then, I have been enjoying reading English news and learning words
and expressions as a hobby.
Well, why don’t you try it? It’s not so hard. You don’t have to read a
lot of difficult articles. All you have to do is just to pick up some articles
which attract your attention and to ENJOY reading them.
I want to share this INTELLECTUAL HOBBY with you.
